What Kinesiotape do you use?

Using Kinesio® Tape in the Clinic

As a therapist who treats clients for a wide variety of issues from nerve pain to muscle pain and all the pains in between, I chose to use Kinesio® Tape as I knew that I could rely on each different tape type to give me the results I need.

Yes, I could have gone to the Medical supply chains and bought the generic K Tape or one of the many brands of Elastic Therapeutic tapes that are marketed by the company that has made them. However I still do not know what the tension availability is, or how long the tape will stay on the skin or even what percentage of stretch the tape is placed on the paper for a paper off application.

As a Kinesio® Taping practitioner for the past 8 years and now a Kinesio Taping Instructor, each of these areas I already know before I reach for the Tape in my cupboard. Yes this is a picture of my exact clinics Kinesio® Tape store. This is what I go to everyday for my clients. and this is why.

The Performance Plus tape with the 3 colours in the box and the black on the top of the cabinet is the tape I go to for large fascia and muscle issues in my adults. It is great going around corners for elbows and knees. I can use it to stay on for 5 days of post treatment care which allow my clints to build new neural pathways and help to adjust muscle patterning.

My blue FP Kinesiotape on the far right in the bulk pack gives me 31 metres of the best treatment for epidermis, dermis and subcutaneous fascia therapy. If I have a client with overactive nerves, extreme pain or fascia that is attached to bone or even the scar tissue that won't release from the dermis layer, then I know that I can use a piece about 5 cm long and it will take away pain and free tissue for the next 10 days. I also know that I won't be using this on my little ones as it has a strong grip.

My 2 middle bulk packs in blue and black are the Classic Kinesio® Tape - the tape that started it all. As in every other Elastic Therapeutic tape on the market is a copy of this one that Kenzo Kase designed in the '70's. Classic is my go to for 3 days of treatment. Bringing overactive or underactive muscles back to homeostasis, supporting ligaments and tendons, Moving fascia to where it needs to go, moving lymphatics in a way that is gentle to the body and systems. And the list goes on.

The two little packs are Light Touch designed for pediatric and geriatric clients as well as those with sensitive skin. It is the pack that can do everything the other tapes can do but will only stay on for 24 hours max.

So I will each day, as I am treating my clients, refer back to my wee cabinet with its four different types of Kinesio® Tape and know that the tape I reach for will do exactly what it should. The paper off tension is correct, the length of time it will stay on is correct, the available stretch is correct, the ability to be used up to 75% stretch or only 35% stretch is correct.

My training to become a CKTP® Certified Kinesio Taping Practitioner taught me what I need and how to use it, while using the correct kinesiotape from the original designer and maker of Kinesio® Tape means that I know exactly what results I will get.
